Shoplifting

Phoenix, Arizona Shoplifting Defense Attorney

Shoplifting is a serious offense in Arizona and can carry a sentence of up to 6 months in jail with fines and probation of up to 3 years. If the property taken is over $1000 but less than $2000 then it would be a class 6 felony. Most shoplifting cases involve merchandise taken from a store with a value of $200 or less. I first try to get the case dismissed, but if that is not possible then get the prosecutor to agree to a fine and no jail. Also, some of the courts have diversion programs with classes and sometimes I can get the prosecutor to agree to this in order to avoid jail and a trial, if the person has a good case that can be won at trial then that is what should be done.

Larry G. Ruch - Attorney at Law

Unlike most attorneys I do not charge extra for a trial because if a person has a good case they have a constitutional right to a trial and should not forfeit that right because their attorney wants additional fees. Having a shoplifting case on your record can seriously affect and limit your job opportunities so it is important to have an attorney and avoid a conviction. Also, if there is a conviction and after the person completes all requirements of their sentence as well as probation I can file an application with the court to set aside the conviction which is often referred to as expungement.

As an attorney, I represent people in Maricopa County, Coconino County and throughout Central Arizona. More importantly, choosing me to protect your rights will put over 35 years of experience with Arizona criminal defense on your side.
